Dr. Sheth’s is a dermatologically formulated luxury skincare brand made specifically for Indian skin tone and texture, the sensitivity and problems faced. If you are new to acids and want to try and invest in a good yet affordable (as compared to other foreign brands) then Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel is the one you should start with. The formulator for these amazing products is none other than Dr. Rekha Sheth (with her team) who was India’s first cosmetic dermatologist and one of Bollywood’s top dermatologists.
She has been a consultant to several industry giants like Hindustan Unilever, L’Oréal and others. When I stepped deep into skincare all these terms like acids, actives, AHA, BHA and what not just blew my mind and I couldn’t figure out what to use until I read about these and then decided to try my very first product from Dr. Sheth’s. In this post of Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel Review I have tried to put in the best of my knowledge so kindly read thoroughly.
It’s my first time with acids and peels and this one being so gentle worked great for me. Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel contains hero ingredients like Glycolic and lactic acid which works as a great chemical exfoliator whereas ingredients like calendula gives a soothing effect. HOW TO USE IT?
So, on the outer packaging the only Direction for use written was “APPLY AT NIGHT POST CLEANSING. ALWAYS USE SUNSCREEN IN THE DAY WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT” which was actually not satisfying for me as being a newcomer I had so many questions like how to apply it directly or as a mask? Do we have to wash it afterwards? And some other questions which I think you guys would also have. So, I went to their website to find out, so there I found out these-
Instruction for Use (as stated)
- If you are new to acids, we recommend you first patch test this product
- For pigmentation: apply on spots and leave overnight. Wash off the next morning
- For tanned or uneven skin: apply a thin layer over your night cream and leave overnight. Wash off the next morning
- As a mask: cleanse and apply a thick layer on the skin. Leave on for 5-10 minutes and then wipe off. Follow this with your night cream
- It is ideal if you use the peel in your night-time skincare routine. Ensure you use sunscreen the next day, even if you are indoors.
So, this was like a better guidance than the one stated on the packaging but then my point is that why would anyone go and search for directions for use on the official brand website, blogs or YouTube? Maybe someone who is willing to use it is not so well off with these depths and started using the product like anything and then gets a severe reaction? Though it’s very gentle but then if you use excess of it and if in case it reacts and if not then why to waste your product and money just because of the fault of the brand that they haven’t mentioned the instructions clearly. That being said, I was still not convinced with the Directions to use as acids was something I feared of and could not start using it on daily basis.
Because I have previously seen many bloggers saying to use acids just once in a week and even if the name suggests daily peel so what? Its skincare and me trying to use acids daily on my face in the beginning would give me Goosebumps as I didn’t want to ruin my skin. I’m 21 and have pretty normal skin with a few blackheads and whiteheads, sometimes facing dead and dull skin.
So, I searched again and went on NYKAA website and there I found some genuine directions which at that time I didn’t know would work for me or not. But then, at least they seemed legit because I know that we have to incorporate such ingredients into our skincare regime slowly and gradually. Here’s what I found on nykaa and would suggest you to follow this method to using Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel-
- For pigmented spots: apply on spots.
- For tanned or uneven skin: apply every third day for three weeks, every other day for two weeks and every day after that.
- As a mask: apply a thick layer on the skin. Leave on for 5 minutes and then wipe off.
I have tanned skin so, I used it every third day for a week followed by every other day. My skin loved it though I’ll talk about the details below. Also USE SUNSCREEN when you are using this product as AHA tends to make the skin photosensitive.
MY EXPERIENCE USING Dr. Sheth’s Basic Brightening Extra Gentle Daily Peel
The first time I applied this I felt a tingling sensation for a couple of minutes which later on calmed down. I applied a thin layer of it on my clean face and neck avoiding under eye area and left it overnight. I used it with a very gentle facewash and did not use any other active ingredients in my skincare routine when using it. In the morning, washed off with a gentle cleanser and used a sunscreen after that.
I did saw a couple of very tiny breakouts on my skin which is quite normal when you try something new especially acids. But these went off in a day or two. The tingling sensation which I experienced earlier now lasted less than a minute which is also quite normal as acids do sting a bit. The texture of the peel is somewhat like a lightweight moisturizer (i hope you understand). it does take 5-10 minutes to get absorbed depending on your skin type and weather conditions.
After a few uses, my skin got used to it and did feel brighter and softer. It did reduce the appearance of whiteheads and blackheads but not all of them. Some stubborn ones still remained there. The texture of my skin became smoother and uneven skin tone also evened out a bit. Though all this would take a good span of time maybe a few months, at least 1.5 to 2 months. So be patient!
Overall, I quite liked the product as it’s my first chemical exfoliator I found it as a great choice. Better than those harsh physical exfoliator scrubs which rip your skin and give micro tears. Though, I tried to cover each and everything but still if I missed on something then shoot your queries below. I would love to answer them to my best of capacity and knowledge. I have shared both pros and cons while talking about each part then and there so, am not mentioning it again here as it makes the blogpost lengthier. I’m really excited to try other products by the brand as well.
Ps- avoid applying this product on active acne and cuts. Tingling sensation which is very mild is quite possible but not burning and stinging. Patch test recommended.
