Washing our hair is a normal activity that we all do to clean our hair & make them appealing. But most of us do it in the wrong way which may damage our hair & hamper its quality. There are many common mistakes that we all do which lead to hair fall, damage, dandruff, dull & dry hair. In this post, I am going to share with you How to wash your hair at home in the correct way. And will also discuss some of the most common mistakes we do while washing our hair. So keep that in mind and avoid doing them. Please keep on reading –
Don’t wash your hair more than 3 times a week-
Most of us have a habit of washing our hair daily or even two times a day or whenever we take a bath. It’s a very common myth that washing hair everyday will make your hair better. But trust me guys, it’s not true. You are using chemical based cleansers or shampoo to wash your hair and over usage of these products will damage your hair & make them worse. So, do not shampoo your hair more than 3 times a week.
Oil your hair before washing-
I do it almost every time I wash my hair, do it almost every time you will the difference in the quality of your hair after washing it. Oiling will not only help to grow your hair but also will make your hair soft & shiny. Apply oil into the scalp and massage it well also run your fingers across the lengths of your hair & tips of course. This will nourish your hair & will also reduce the direct contact of harsh chemicals on your hair. Apply oil for about 30 minutes to 3-4 hours that depends on you.
If not oil, then go for Hair Mask
Hair mask helps in locking the nutrients into your hair and will strengthen & enhance your hair. You can use any hair mask that suits you or any homemade hair mask which I have already posted on my blog (or maybe will post soon if not yet posted)
Use a homemade hair cleanser –
Using a homemade hair cleanser will not only help to save your money but will also help to stay chemical free. Click here for homemade hair cleansers.
If you don’t have the time to make hair cleanser at home or you are not comfortable using them then go for Paraben & Sulphate free hair cleanser/ shampoo. These tend to foam less but are good for your hair quality in the long run. Paraben & sulphates disturb the texture of hair & make them dull & dry when used continuously.
How I wash my Hair-
I do it in 2 steps-
First I take a coin sized amount of shampoo, rub it across my palm & apply it all over my hair & massage it from the scalp, lengths & tips for 2-3 minutes then wash it off.
Then I take another coin sized amount & apply it on my scalp and gently massage it to clean my scalp so that the hair follicles get to breath & absorb all the nutrients from the oil which I apply. Then I put in all the hair and gently massage them together & wash off with normal water. Do not be over harsh with your hair as then they tend to break & fall more.
Follow the tips given below for better quality of hair-
- Try to use soft water for washing your hair.
- Apply conditioner & serum on your hair after washing it but do not apply these products on your scalp as they will coagulate and stay there which will lead to more hair problems.
- Do not over do any step.
- Be gentle with your hair
- Always cover your hair before going out in sun or dust & pollution.
- Do not comb your hair directly after washing them, wait for them to air dry.
- Avoid using heat or chemical based products to set or style your hair.
- Oil your hair regularly.
- Eat healthy diet full, of fruits & green leafy vegetables.
