Sugar cosmetics is India’s first brand which has launched serum foundation. I personally love the sugar matte as hell lip crayons, lipsticks, highlighters and everything else. So I was very excited to try this foundation. It’s made for Indian skin, vegan and cruelty free. Serum foundations are like an oil based foundation which gives velvety skin like finish. These settle smoothly on the skin and are also known as skin tints. Sugar Drop the Base Serum Foundation is like a magic potion especially for dry skin people. In this blogpost I am going to share Sugar Drop the base Serum Foundation Review and swatches. So let’s get to know more about this liquid foundation by Sugar.
Sugar Drop the Base Serum Foundation Price-
Inr.899 but I got it on flat 50% i.e. 450rs only which is a steal deal and would recommend you to wait for such deals because why not?
Dimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Isododecane, Vinyl Dimethicone, EthylHexyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Alaria Esculentia, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Isohexadecane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Zinc Oxide, Polybutene, Talc, Propylene Carbonate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Parfum, Hydrogen Dimethicone, CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499
SUGAR DROP THE BASE SERUM FOUNDATION SHADE RANGE-
The shade range is pretty decent or ok-ish though I would definitely want an extension in the shade range as we have a beautiful diversity of skin colours in our country. Currently there are 10 shades of Sugar Drop the Base Foundation.
10 latte – is the lightest shade from all it has a warm undertone. It’ll suit fair skin tone (though not very fair)
15 Cappuccino- it’s a light shade with cool undertone.
17 Raf- it is again a light shade but obviously a bit dark than no.10 & 15. It has a golden yellow undertone.
27 Vienna- is a light medium shade for medium skin tone with warm undertone.
32 Cortado- it’s a medium shade with golden undertone.
37 Freddo- it’s a beige shade for medium skin tone with golden and peach undertone
42 Glace- is a darker medium shade with golden undertone.
50 Mocha- is a dusky medium shade with yellow undertone.
52 Coretto- is a tan shade with yellow undertone.
60 Lungo- is a deeper shade with golden undertone.
Though there’s a good variety of shades but I feel like almost all of them have warm or yellow golden undertone. Cool and neutral undertones are kind of missing from Sugar foundation. Also there’s not much variety for very light or very dusky skin tones which is a major bummer.
HOW TO APPLY
Take a dollop onto your palm. With the applicator, apply small dots over your face and neck. Using your fingertips, beauty sponge or a foundation brush, blend the product well into the skin to get a refreshed look.
SUGAR DROP THE BASE SERUM FOUNDATION SWATCHES
The packaging comes in a classic sugar outer cardboard box. Inside is the foundation in a cute little frosted glass square packaging with a dropper. I love the fact that the foundation comes with a dropper and the glass bottle is really thick so it’s not easy to break it. Though it’s not completely travel friendly as you will have to take extra care of the bottle. Also if I had to pay the full price i.e. Rs.899 then the quantity of the foundation feels less. Well, the quantity of Sugar Drop the base serum foundation is 20ml which actually is less for the full price. It should atleast be of the standard 30ml packaging which most of the foundations are. Also even at the discounted price which is Rs.450 it’s still less because we get many other good quality foundations like Maybelline fit me which is my cult favourite at same price with more quantity.
Also it comes with a dropper which makes it easier to dispense and control the usage of the product.
Sugar Drop the Base Serum Foundation Consistency & Texture
As the name suggests, it’s a serum foundation so don’t expect it to be extremely thick or full coverage. The texture is smooth and glides on easily on the skin. It’s kind of light weight & flowy in consistency but not very runny.
Sugar Drop the Base Serum Foundation Review / My experience
There are many types of foundation in the market. Some are liquid, stick and serum foundations. This was my first time using the sugar cosmetics serum foundation. I quite enjoyed using it. It got my hands on the shade no. 17 which I felt is a little lighter but I made it work for me. It helps to minimize pores, gives medium coverage and lasts for good 7-8 hours without fading. Though it depends on your skin type and weather conditions as well. Also it feels comfortable and gives a velvety satin finish, neither too matte nor too glossy. It’s a great pick for dry skin people as it contains serum in it.
I have used this foundation for about 3 months now and feel that it’s actually a good foundation for all age groups. Though as I said earlier that the quantity is less according to me but other than that I love the overall finish of the foundation. The best part about this foundation is that it doesn’t oxidize (at least not on me) but you can always blot your oily face, use primer & makeup setting sprays if foundations tend to oxidize on your skin.
Now talking about the coverage of Sugar Drop the Base Serum Foundation. I used this with my fingers, brush & a beauty blender too. Overall it’s a medium to full (buildable) coverage foundation, though I would not recommend layering it more than twice as it might look cakey. Using my fingers and brush obviously the coverage was more than a blender but the finish of using it with a blender made it look more natural and it got merged with my skin. So I would suggest even if you use your fingers or a foundation brush to apply this, at the end just bounce your makeup sponge to get that flawless finish.
Using both powder and cream products on top of the foundation was easy and everything blended nicely. The foundation did not budge while applying other makeup products on top of it which I personally like.
- Cruelty free
- Affordable (when on discounts)
- Average shade range (though it can be a con as well) but atleast the shade range is better than some brands which have just 2 or 3 shades.
- Good for dry skin
- Has serum in it
- Velvety finish
- Comes with a dropper
- Packaging is quite nice
- Medium to full coverage
- Other makeup products blend easily on top of it
- Gives good coverage with foundation brush, fingers and sponges
- If you don’t have prominent dark circles then you don’t need a concealer with this foundation
- Brightens up your face instantly (as it has yellow undertone)
- Comfortable on the skin
- Lasts for good 7-8 hours
- Doesn’t oxidize
- Easily available
- Doesn’t have shades or very light or very dark skin tones
- Almost all shades have yellow/golden undertone
